Project Maelstrom, the name of the Chromium-based web browser from BitTorrent, applies the company's P2P technology to share browser files on a worldwide scale while offering an integrated P2P download client that doesn't need any additional programs to work.
Maelstrom's philosophy lies in making your PC the deepest node in the network infrastructure, such that your computer serves as both client and server to present web pages to third parties. In other words, Maelstrom decentralizes the Internet so that its content doesn't have to pass through central filters and servers. Even so, given the difficult and idealistic character of a project like this one, the browser also works with commonly used protocols. And as it's based on Chromium, it will be very intuitive for any users familiar with the Google browser.
Maelstrom's other great appeal lies in its capacity to download torrent files without needing an external client. Clicking on a .torrent or magnet link will automatically open a browser tab where you can start the download locally and even view the file in real time on an integrated media player as it downloads.
